Looking for ways to fight boredom? It’s easy to spend this time at home feeling bored and unmotivated. Here are some fun and creative ideas and activities that you can do at home to brighten your days.

Get outdoors

Carve time out of your day to go outside for a walk. Sometimes just being able to get out of the house can brighten your day! Now is a great time to check out some of your local parks and start exploring. Our parks are great for walking, hiking, running, walking dogs, wildlife viewing, and just enjoying nature.

Read

Grab a book you’ve been wanting to read and find a quiet space to dive into the story. Or you can read out loud to your kids, your pets, your spouse. (Check out this article about the importance of reading to your kids.) You can also create a virtual book club with your friends!

Find a new hobby or work on something that you already enjoy

Now is the perfect opportunity to spend time developing that hobby or skill that you have been interested in for a while. Whether it’s learning a new instrument or starting a new DIY project, using the extra time we have on our hands to start something new can be exciting and fun.

Play board games

Make a game night out of it. Order locally, sit down at the table, and play! This is a great time to dust off that Monopoly game you have sitting on the shelf.

Spend time cooking or baking

Being in the kitchen is a great way to spend time with your family at home. This could be a fun time to try out new recipes! Click here to read about how cooking can be a creative outlet.

Get moving

Do yoga, go play fetch with the dog, ride a bike – pick an activity that you enjoy and stay active. Here are some tips from Coach Becky on how to stay active at home.

Challenge your mind

Work on puzzles, do sudoku, work on crosswords – do something to challenge yourself. These can develop into fun hobbies.

Build a fort or camp in your living room

We used to do this a ton in my family growing up. My parents would set up the tent in our living room if the weather was less than ideal to go camp outside. It’s an engaging activity and transforms your living room into a fun space.

Go through your closet and organize

It’s hard to be at home with lots of clutter. Go through your closet and find things that you won’t wear anymore. Look through your kitchen, living room, and bedroom and get rid of any items you don’t use. Donate clothes and household items and enjoy the feeling of getting rid of clutter!
